Dear doctors, with the role of toclizumab in a doubt as per Roche clinical trial, we have to search for a newer alternative for treating cytokine storm. I would like to share my experience using an alternative molecule called Itolizumab. It is a monoclonal antibody to CD6. We have used itolizumab in 10 severely I'll covid patients with cytokine storm. We have seen major improvements in all of these patients. All of them went off bipap and ventilator fast and there were no deaths. We did not see much adverse effects like deranged LFT or raised creatinine. Patients experienced some chills and rigor during infusion which was controlled with avil. This is quite in contrast to toclizumab where some patients have deranged LFT, sepsis and so on. Itolizumab is a promising new alternative to toclizumab and needs further clinical trials so that we can use it effectively and save lives.
