Typhoid is a bacterial infection caused by Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi (Salmonella Typhi). It spreads through contaminated food and water and is more common in areas with poor sanitation.
Symptoms
Symptoms usually appear 6–30 days after infection and may include:
High fever that increases gradually
Headache
Weakness and fatigue
Stomach pain
Loss of appetite
Constipation or diarrhea
Nausea and vomiting (sometimes)
A pink-colored rash (“rose spots“) on the chest or abdomen in some people
How It Spreads
Typhoid is spread by:

Eating contaminated food
Close contact with someone who is infected or who carries the bacteria
Diagnosis

Blood culture (most common early test)
Stool or urine culture
Bone marrow culture (most accurate, but used less often)

If left untreated, typhoid can cause serious complications such as:
Intestinal bleeding
Intestinal perforation (a hole in the intestine)
Severe infection (sepsis)
Confusion or delirium
In rare cases, it can be life-threatening
