Malaria is caused by parasites of the Plasmodium family. When an infected mosquito bites a person, the parasite enters the bloodstream and travels to the liver, where it multiplies. Later, it infects red blood cells, leading to symptoms such as fever, chills, and weakness.
How Does Malaria Spread?
Malaria spreads mainly through:
Bite of infected female Anopheles mosquitoes
Transmission through infected blood transfusion (rare)
Sharing contaminated needles (rare)
From mother to baby during pregnancy (congenital malaria)
Malaria does not spread through casual contact such as touching, sharing food, or being near an infected person.
