Using Ozempic® (Semaglutide) and Mounjaro® (Tirzepatide)
What Are These Medicines?
Ozempic (semaglutide) and Mounjaro (tirzepatide) are once-weekly injectable medicines used to:
Treat Type 2 Diabetes
Help with weight loss
Improve blood sugar control
Reduce appetite
They work by mimicking natural hormones in your body that:

How to Use Your Injection
✔ When to Inject
Inject once weekly
Use the same day each week
Can be taken with or without food
If needed, you may change the day — leave at least 3 days (72 hours) between doses
✔ Where to Inject
Inject under the skin (subcutaneous injection) in:
Abdomen (stomach area)
Thigh
Upper arm
Rotate injection sites weekly.
Do NOT inject into:
Muscle
Veins
Areas that are bruised or irritated
Starting Dose & Dose Increases
Ozempic (Semaglutide)
Start: 0.25 mg once weekly (4 weeks)
Increase to: 0.5 mg once weekly
If needed: increase to 1 mg or 2 mg once weekly
Mounjaro (Tirzepatide)
Start: 2.5 mg once weekly (4 weeks)
Increase every 4 weeks if needed:
5 mg
7.5 mg
10 mg
12.5 mg
15 mg (maximum)
Your clinician will guide dose increases.
Common Side Effects
These are usually mild and improve over time:
Nausea
Vomiting
Diarrhoea
Constipation
Bloating
Reduced appetite
Heartburn
Tips to Reduce Side Effects
Eat smaller meals
Avoid fatty or fried foods
Eat slowly
Stop eating when full
Stay hydrated
Serious Side Effects (Seek Urgent Medical Help)
Contact a doctor urgently if you develop:
Severe stomach pain that does not go away (possible pancreatitis)
Persistent vomiting
Signs of dehydration
Severe allergic reaction (swelling, rash, breathing difficulty)
Who Should NOT Use These Medicines?
Do not use if you:
Have Type 1 Diabetes
Have a history of pancreatitis (without specialist advice)
Have a personal/family history of medullary thyroid cancer
Are pregnant or breastfeeding
Have severe gastroparesis
Always inform your clinician about all other medications you take.
Missed Dose Advice
If less than 5 days late → take the dose as soon as possible
If more than 5 days late → skip and take next dose on usual day
Do NOT take two doses at the same time
Storage Instructions
Before first use:
Store in fridge (2–8°C)
Do not freeze
After first use:
Can be kept at room temperature (below 30°C)
Keep away from direct sunlight
Dispose of after 56 days (check product leaflet)
