Dear patients, We have 7 newly reported cases of the mutated UK corona strain in India currently. This is a dangerous trend because of the strain is much more infectious than the old strain. There is a fear that it may trigger a second surge in 2021. We still do not know if the vaccines will fight this strain. No trial results available for the same. We also don't know if this new strain can cause more morbidity and mortality than the old one. One thing we know if that it affects young population too. We also don't know how effective facipiravir, remdesivir will be in the mutant infected population. With so much of uncertainty there's one thing we can still do. We can still prevent the spread of virus by strict social distancing. Religious use of masks , sanitizers and frequent hand washes is the way out for now.
